Sahara Survivors, the Endangered Slender-horned Gazelle at the Naples Zoo

Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens recently welcomed a trio of endangered gazelles native to the unforgiving and otherworldly dunes of the Sahara Desert. Known as slender-horned gazelles, as few as 250 of these elegant creatures may yet traverse northern Africa’s sand seas west of the Nile River. Red-Footed Tortoises at the Naples Zoo

The red-footed tortoise is named for the colorful markings on its limbs and face. The species can reach 14 inches in length. Its greenish-brown shell displays upraised points on the central plates. The tortoises are omnivores, feeding on fruits, greens, plants, vegetables and dead animals it encounters.
